Happy Homemaker Monday – June 20th, 2011

Hi everyone,

For more Happy Homemaker Mondays visit  Diary of a Stay at Home Mom

The weather in my neck of the woods: 86 and partly cloudy. We had a large thunderstorm last night and have more storms predicted for later this week.
Things that make me happy: Being able to be a stay at home mom

Book I’m reading: The Bible

31 Days to Clean by Sarah Mae

Be the People by Carol M. Swain

What’s on my TV today: Nothing

On the menu for dinner: Tuna casserole, carrots, and steamed cauliflower

On my To Do List: Laundry

Yard Work

New Recipe I tried or want to try soon: Chipotle Beef & Rice

In the craft basket: Nothing

Looking forward to this week: Starting on some cleaning and organizing projects I’ve been putting off until after our school year was over.

Tips and Tricks: Make places to put things away as close to where you use them as possible. Not only does it save a lot of steps but around my house, everyone (including me), is more likely to clean up as soon as they are done if they don’t have to leave the room to do it.

My favorite blog post this week: Finish What You Start at Organizing Junkie

Lesson learned the past few days:
Not learned but reminded – Don’t let others push you into doing something you don’t want to do.

On my mind: What am I going to do after my kids graduate? Teaching them has been a major part of my life for the past twelve years and in just two more I’ll be done.

Devotionals, Scripture Reading, Key Verses: For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse: Romans 1:20

A Holy Experience

No words needed (favorite photo or picture, yours or others you want to share):

I post a lot of pictures of cats, don’t I? I guess partly because we live in the country and people dump cats off on us. I try to get the females fixed and find homes for as many as I can but we still have way too many.

Lesson learned the past few days:
If I write things down I’m less likely to forget them even if I lose the note.

On my mind: My family’s health, plans for the summer, wishing I had planted a garden this year.

Devotionals, Scripture Reading, Key Verses: 5Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. 6In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths. Proverbs 3:5-6

The weather in my neck of the woods: Currently 91 and mostly sunny. It’s supposed to be in the mid 90’s all week.
Things that make me happy: Free Books. It doesn’t matter where they came from (library, loaned from a friend, free bin at the local used book store, free downloadable ebooks, review copy) as long as someone in my house will use or enjoy it.

Book I’m reading: The Bible

Looking for a Window by Denzil Holman

31 Days to Clean by Sarah Mae

Fudge Cupcake Murder by Joanne Fluke

What’s on my TV today: Coverage of E3 (can you tell I have teenagers?)

On the menu for dinner: I don’t know yet. My husband’s not feeling well; if he’s feeling well enough we’ll go do some grocery shopping and go out to eat, if he’s not we’ll probably have homemade chicken tenders.

On my To Do List:
Homeschool (only a couple more weeks and we’re done for the year)

Mopping

Laundry

New Recipe I tried or want to try soon: Vegetable Beef Bow Tie Skillet

Homemade Olive Garden Breadsticks

In the craft basket: Didn’t do any crafting this week

Looking forward to this week: A peaceful week with hopefully no major events (good or bad)

Tips and Tricks: Spray hair spray on ink or grass stains on your clothing before washing them. It works better for me than most commercial stain removers (you might have to treat the stain a second time). I have even gotten some stains out when I didn’t see them until after the clothing had been washed and dried.

My favorite blog post this week: I have two this week.

Happy Monday everyone.

The weather in my neck of the woods: cloudy and cool with scattered rain showers. I don’t think it even reached 60 degrees today.

Things that make me happy: Reading a good book

Book I’m reading: The Bible

Miss Match by Erynn Mangum

Moments with the Master by Denzil Holman

What’s on my TV today: Nothing

On the menu for dinner: Slow Cooker Chicken Parmesan (The Chicken Parmesan was really good. the whole family liked it and the recipe will be added to our make again list.  note added 5/17)

On my To Do List:

Laundry

Homeschool

Mopping

New Recipe I tried or want to try soon: I haven’t found a new recipe to try this week yet.
In the craft basket. I’ve finally started back on my cross stitch Noah’s Ark.

Looking forward to this week: The one day of not too hot, not too cold and rainy weather we’re supposed to get this Thursday. I’m hoping we can do some work outside and have time for some family fun.

Tips and Tricks: Use white vinegar to kill weeds in your yard. Put it in an inexpensive spray bottle and spray it on the leaves and near the base of the plant you want to kill. Large weeds may take an extra application a few days later and it works best if you can time it so there won’t be rain for at least the next 12 to 24 hours. Not only is this cheaper than store bought weed killers it is also safer for your kids, your pets, and the environment.

Lesson learned the past few days: That I need to worry less about other people’s opinions.

On my mind: Praying about whether or not my family and I should move. Trying to figure out what we have left to do to finish up our homeschooling year.

Devotionals, Scripture Reading, Key Verses: God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth.  John 4:24

We may be poor, but we are happy

No words needed (favorite photo or picture, yours or others you want to share):

Lesson learned the past few days: If you are thinking about someone you don’t see very often take the time to call, email or text them. If you don’t do it now you might lose touch with them or even worse you might not get another chance.

On my mind: My grandpa’s memorial service

Devotionals, Scripture Reading, Key Verses: 10Be it known unto you all, and to all the people of Israel, that by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom ye crucified, whom God raised from the dead, even by him doth this man stand here before you whole. 11This is the stone which was set at nought of you builders, which is become the head of the corner. 12Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.   Acts 4:10-12

Lesson learned the past few days: I have a hard time letting go of things.

Some things I need to just stop worrying about and trust everything will be okay even if it isn’t perfect.

I need to just let go of hurtful things that have been said in the past also, and try not to let them continue to hurt me.

On my mind: I’m worried about my Grandpa. He recently recovered from throat cancer but has a weakened immune system from the chemotherapy. Now he has caught pneumonia and been put in the hospital. I don’t see him very often but I still love him and worry about him.

Devotionals, Scripture Reading, Key Verses: 10For he that will love life, and see good days, let him refrain his tongue from evil, and his lips that they speak no guile: 11Let him eschew evil, and do good; let him seek peace, and ensue it. 1 Peter 3:10-11

Happy Homemaker Monday – Week 12 – 2011

It’s not a newly discovered blog. It’s my husband’s Bible blog so I’ve known about since it went up about a year and a half ago.

Lesson learned the past few days:
I’ve been reminded sometimes it’s best to keep your mouth shut and wait for the right time to put in your two cents worth.

On my mind: Every year around my kids’ birthdays I start wondering how good of a job I’ve done in teaching them what they are going to need to know. I’m sure I’ve done a good job in some areas but I’m just as sure my teachings have been lacking in other areas.

Devotionals, Scripture Reading, Key Verses:

10There shall no evil befall thee, neither shall any plague come nigh thy dwelling. 11For he shall give his angels charge over thee, to keep thee in all thy ways.   Psalms 91:10-11

Spring like weather

Tips and Tricks: For anyone else who doesn’t drink but has recipes that use a little bit of alcohol

Here is a list of substitutions that will work with recipes calling for alcohol (of course if the alcohol is central to the flavor of the recipe it might be best to just skip the recipe):

Beer: equal parts chicken or vegetable broth and ginger ale with a splash of malt vinegar.

White Wine: equal parts chicken or vegetable broth and white grape juice with a splash of cider or balsamic vinegar.

Red Wine: equal parts chicken or vegetable broth and red grape juice with a splash of red wine or balsamic vinegar.

Sherry: same as either wine substitute.

No words needed (favorite photo or picture, yours or others you want to share):

Lesson learned the past few days: (already learned but was reminded) to take time to play with my kids.

On my mind: Making sure I set a good example for my kids.

The spring weather is making me think of new birth. I’m reminded to be thankful of the New Birth I have in Jesus and am thinking of trying to put forth more effort (a new birth of sorts) in my organizational skills.

Devotionals, Scripture Reading, Key Verses: 38Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost. 39For the promise is unto you, and to your children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as the LORD our God shall call.   Acts 2:38-39 KJV

Okay this is not a newly discovered blog, and a lot of you (especially those who found my blog through Happy Homemaker Monday) already know about this one, but as one of my inspirations for starting my own blog I thought this one deserved to be mentioned on my first Homemaker Monday.

One of our kittens curled up in my blanket

Lesson learned the past few days: To be grateful for what you do have. Others have things worse than me no matter how bad my day seems, and there is something to be thankful for every day.

On my mind: Planning for my kids’ birthdays, one next week, one two weeks later.

Trying to figure out which household project to start first now that the weather is warming up.

Wondering when my husband’s uncle will have a chance to till our garden spot.

Devotionals, Scripture Reading, Key Verses: Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee. Psalm 119:11
